Adult Activities

  • Skill Building: Activities to boost self-esteem and coping strategies.
  • Creative Sessions: Baking, cooking, arts and crafts, and mindful colouring.
  • Relaxation and Fun: Mindful colouring, movie nights and games nights to unwind. Residents have enjoyed karaoke and dancing. They also enjoy the song quiz on the TV where the game plays the start of the song and the person has to carry on singing. Social gatherings are encouraged where appropriate.
  • Budgeting Skills  – building life skills, importance of putting money aside for bills, meal planning, healthy eating. For example, one resident started eating cucumber and dip instead of crisps, cooking meals from scratch, using ingredients the resident already had to cook a meal, reducing waste, identifying new foods the residents like, making pastry with one resident to make a pie, baking.
  • Confidence Building – holding a knife, grating cheese. One resident had been burnt as a child so didn’t want to use the oven but was able to do this with support.
  • Promoting Hygiene – Role modelling good hygiene routines. One resident hadn’t taken care of their hair. Through support, the support workers detangled her hair which led to mum buying shampoo, conditioner and a hair dryer. This in turn positively impacted her self esteem and confidence.
  • Networking – Accessing activities in the community and building links. Breaking down barriers to social engagement and communication.

Children’s Activities

  • Developmental Play: Sensory play, messy play, and gross motor activities. Showing parents how to ‘play’.
  • Relaxation and Connection: Tummy time, and baby massage. Supporting developing positive attachments.
  • Outdoor Exploration: Buggy walks and water play. Accessing the local parks and play areas.
  • External Activities – Accessing local groups and activities.
  • Educational Activities – Promoting learning and development. We are also able to access educational resources from our local education centre.

Therapeutic Approach

Our Team Therapists play a pivotal role in facilitating the growth and development of parents to enhance their abilities in caring for their children.

Within our services we use CCTV cameras to help keep our children and residents safe.

Surveillance

When a family first arrives, they sign a surveillance consent form. The form will record how they will be monitored. We are able to provide full monitoring or intermittent monitoring. Our cameras both live stream and record visual and audio footage, however, we only turn on audio footage if the visual footage raises concerns, if there is a safeguarding incident or if this is part of an observation. We aim to provide our residents with privacy and respect where possible unless full audio monitoring is requested by the local authority and therefore this is provided.

All residents will be made aware of the location of the cameras. Exclusion zones are in place over the parents bed unless this area is requested to be monitored by the Local Authority due to safeguarding reasons. All exclusion zones can be removed if required.

Footage that may be required for purposes of a Police investigation or used within a court hearing will be archived and shared via secure e mail with the appropriate professionals. Parents will be made aware if this happens.

All surveillance monitoring will be reviewed at weeks 2, 6 and 10 or alternatively as required.

If surveillance via CCTV is not required, we have a number of different alternative options available, including intermittent in person check in or 1 to 1 in person support 24/7. Alternatively, we have accommodation at both Haylen and Ayla that do not have cameras fitted. At Haylen, we have 3 self-contained flats on the top floor and at Ayla, we have the 2 bedroom coach house.
